By Dhiwaharan
One of the Promotional advertisements of Indian Premier League 2022 in which Chennai Super Kings Captain Dhoni imitated Superstar Rajinikanth got banned after a complaint was filed on it alleging that it glorifies the violation of traffic rules. The fictional advertisement showed Dhoni causing traffic to watch the Super over of an IPL match and a traffic police turning a blind eye after knowing about it.
The complaint was lodged by a road safety organization which cited that the promo was glorifying traffic violation. The advertising standard council of India recommend Indian Premier League to withdraw the order after hearing about the complaint.
The advertisement showed Dhoni in a role of a bus driver, imitating Tamil superstar Rajinikanth and stops the bus in the middle of a very busy road. When a traffic police man arrives to the scene and questions Dhoni about his actions, he says that people are watching “Super over” of an IPL match. The traffic police man could be seen treating this as a normal incident during IPL season ans drives away.
When it’s the #TATAIPL, fans can go to any extent to catch the action – kyunki #YehAbNormalHai!

Complaint against the advertisement was filed by The Consumer Unity and Trust Society. The ASCI which is a voluntary industry body took cognisance of the complaint. The consumer complaints committee members of the ASCI watched the advertisement along with the representative of the company which made the promo.
The ASCI found violation of it’s code and instructed the advertisement making company to either modify the ad or completely withdraw it by 20th of April. The advertisement company has accepted it in writing that it will withdraw the ad.
