The Chennai High Court recently made a significant decision by dismissing a case that was filed against actor Dhanush and director Aishwarya Rajinikanth. The case was related to their movie “Velai Illa Pattadhaari,” where the complaint alleged that the film did not include appropriate warnings during smoking scenes. However, the Madras High Court overturned the case based on an appeal filed by Dhanush.

“Velai Illa Pattadhaari” aka VIP was a film released in 2014 that starred Dhanush in the lead role. The movie became embroiled in controversy due to the high number of smoking scenes depicted in it. Subsequently, in 2014, a complaint was filed with the Tamil Nadu government on behalf of the People’s Organization for Handicraft Control, specifically highlighting a scene where Dhanush was shown smoking a cigarette.

Initially, the case was being investigated by the Saidapet Court. However, Dhanush decided to approach the Madras High Court to challenge the complaint. Dhanush’s argument was based on the fact that the No Smoking Act of 2003 only required smoking-related warnings in advertisements for tobacco products, not in movies. Therefore, he contended that such warnings should not be mandatory in the film. The court accepted Dhanush’s defense and subsequently dismissed the case.

It is worth mentioning that Aishwarya Rajinikanth’s name was also associated with the film as she served as its producer. Both Dhanush and Aishwarya Rajinikanth expressed their happiness and relief after the case was dismissed.

On the other hand, Aishwarya Rajinikanth is busy directing the film ‘Lal Salaam.’ The movie features Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in the lead roles, with Superstar Rajinikanth making a powerful appearance. Accompanying them are veteran actresses Jeevitha and Nirosha. Produced by Lyca, the film boasts music composed by the renowned A.R. Rahman and is currently nearing completion.
