Delhi : Man Arrested for Lewd Act at Metro Station Highlights the Importance of Safety Measures

The accused, identified as Shivam Sharma, was taken into custody following the incident. Sharma, who reportedly works in the marketing department of a pharmaceutical company, allegedly masturbated in front of a woman who was waiting on the platform at Mandi House. The woman quickly reported the incident to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the agency responsible for security at India’s Metro stations.

According to the complainant’s account, she had boarded a Metro train at Tughlaqabad station and was waiting at Mandi House for a friend. It was during this period that Sharma, standing on the opposite platform, allegedly engaged in the inappropriate act. The victim’s prompt reporting of the incident to CISF officials helped initiate an immediate response.

Unfortunately, before authorities could apprehend Sharma, he managed to board a train and escape. Despite his escape, the victim’s complaint prompted the police to take swift action. A case was registered at the Pragati Maidan Metro station, and an investigation was launched to locate and apprehend the accused.

The availability of CCTV cameras played a pivotal role in the resolution of this incident. Footage from cameras positioned inside the Metro stations provided crucial evidence that allowed law enforcement to identify and track the accused. The CCTV footage revealed that Sharma had disembarked at the Nangloi station, leading authorities to trace him to Delhi’s Begumpur area. Following the successful tracking of the suspect, he was apprehended by the police.

This information, including Sharma’s online ticket booking and phone number, was shared with the police, leading to his timely arrest.
