Delhi Metro, India’s second-largest metro system, has been at the center of controversy in recent weeks after a series of videos showing indecent behavior by commuters went viral on social media. The latest incident, which showed a young man purportedly masturbating on a crowded train while other commuters looked on uncomfortably, has sparked outrage across the country.

The incident, which took place on a Delhi Metro train, was captured on video by another commuter who did not intervene to stop the perpetrator. The video, which quickly went viral on social media, showed the young man watching something on his mobile phone while he was allegedly masturbating. Other commuters around him looked visibly uncomfortable and moved away, but no one intervened to stop him.

Swati Maliwal, the head of the Delhi Commission for Women, expressed strong concern about the incident and issued a notice to the Delhi Police and Delhi Metro to take strict action against the perpetrator. In a tweet, Maliwal said, “Came across a viral video where a man can be seen shamelessly masturbating in Delhi Metro. It is absolutely disgusting and sickening. I am issuing a notice to Delhi Police and Delhi Metro to ensure strictest possible action against this shameful act.”

The incident has once again highlighted the issue of sexual harassment on public transport in India, particularly on the Delhi Metro. Sexual harassment on public transport is a serious problem in India, with a study by the National Crime Records Bureau revealing that 36,000 cases of sexual harassment were reported on public transport in 2016 alone.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has urged commuters to follow social etiquette and protocols while using the metro system. In a statement, the DMRC said, “We urge all commuters to respect social etiquette while travelling on the metro and to avoid any behavior that could cause discomfort or inconvenience to fellow passengers.”

This is not the first time such incidents have been reported on the Delhi Metro. In a recent viral video, a woman wearing a bra and miniskirt was seen traveling on the train. The video sparked controversy, with some people arguing that the woman’s dress was inappropriate for public transport, while others defended her right to dress as she wished.

The DMRC has a policy against videography on the train, but the woman in the video argued that the policy should apply to those who shot the video as well. The Delhi Commission for Women had notified the Delhi Police and Delhi Metro to take strict action against the perpetrator in this case as well.

The incident has also raised questions about the safety of women on public transport in India. In recent years, there have been several high-profile cases of sexual assault and harassment on public transport, including the 2012 gang rape and murder of a young woman on a bus in Delhi.
