Delhi: Bizarre Incident on Sampark Kranti Express: 19-Year-Old Arrested for Urinating on Retired Professor and Wife
In a shocking incident on the Uttar Pradesh Sampark Kranti Express, a 19-year-old Delhi resident found himself in police custody after allegedly urinating on a retired professor from the prestigious Banaras Hindu University and his wife. Ritesh Kumar, a resident of southwest Delhi’s Qutub Vihar locality, was apprehended by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at the Jhansi railway station. He was arrested under Section 145 of the Railways Act, primarily on charges of being drunk and causing a nuisance to fellow passengers. According to Ravindra Kaushik, the station in charge of RPF at Jhansi, Kumar was to be produced before a magistrate to address the allegations against him.

The Uttar Pradesh Sampark Kranti Express is a well-known train that operates between Manikpur junction in Uttar Pradesh’s Chitrakoot district and Hazaarat Nizamuddin in Delhi. It is a lifeline for many commuters traveling between these two regions. However, the tranquility of the journey was shattered on that fateful Thursday evening.

The incident unfolded when Ritesh Kumar boarded the train at Mahoba district at around 9 pm. According to reports, he was already under the influence of alcohol. Kumar occupied an upper berth in the B-3 coach. Shortly thereafter, a retired BHU professor and his wife boarded the train at Harpalpur station, approximately 45 minutes later, and settled in the lower berths.

The shocking incident began when Kumar, inebriated and unruly, started urinating on his own seat. The elderly couple, horrified and disgusted by this behavior, raised an alarm and tried to stop him. Ravindra Kaushik, the station in charge, recounted, “But he continued urinating on them,” leaving the passengers in disbelief and shock.

Thankfully, other passengers on the train came to the rescue of the distressed elderly couple. They intervened promptly, removing Kumar from his seat and preventing any further harm or humiliation to the victims. Train ticket examiner BS Khan also played a pivotal role in diffusing the situation. He had the offender removed from the coach and reported the appalling incident to the authorities in Jhansi.

Following the incident, local law enforcement swiftly intervened. The Jhansi railway police took Ritesh Kumar into custody at the Jhansi railway station. The arrest was carried out under Section 145 of the Railways Act, which empowers railway authorities to take action against individuals who disrupt the safety and order of train journeys
