Interacting with media, Karthick said that he approached collector GS Sameeran with the request and was directed by him to the Coimbatore North Tahsildar. Naresh was asked to file an affidavit stating he was aware that applying for no caste and no religion certificate for his daughter Vilma will make her ineligible for reservation or privilege based on case and religion.

Sharing about the news in his twitter timeline, director Seenu Ramasamy who is known for introducing Vijay Sethupathy and making films such as “Dharma Durai”, appreciated the father’s gesture. “His gesture made me think. I see it as the best version of freedom a father could give to his child. How can we remove something that gets attached with us during our birth ?” said Seenu Ramasamy while sharing the news in his twitter timeline.

“இவரின் இச்செயல் சிந்திக்க வைக்கிறது. தன் குழந்தைக்கு பெற்றவர் தரும் சிறந்த சுதந்திரம் இது எனவும் எண்ணிப்பார்க்கிறேன். பிறப்பில் ஒட்டுவதை பின் எப்படி நீக்குவது.???” read the tweet of the filmmaker.

Quotng the tweet of the filmmaker, an online user said that this gesture from the father paves way to ruin reservation system in our society. “This is not caste abolition but a ploy. Caste doesn’t exist in certificates but in the society. Will a casteist mindset of a man will change if we remove caste from his certificate ?? Do they identify caste by looking at a certificate ??” the online user asked as a reply to Seenu’s tweet.

Replying to his tweet, Seenu Ramasamy referred to a G.O passed by Kerala Government through which they allowed casteless people to get their rights and said that caste and religion less people should get their rights as India is a country known for its secularism. Seenu also said that the father didnt speak about “Reservation”.

Reacting to him, Sabari, the online user said that this “no caste” certificate denies the reservation rights of the individual who bought it and added that a separate reservation rights should be given to those who ignores caste.

Accepting his opinion, Seenu Ramasamy wrote “சரி ஜாதி மதமில்லை என்பவர்களுக்கு சான்றிதழ்படி இட ஒதுக்கீடு வேண்டுமென்பதுதானே உங்கள் கருத்து” in his reply tweet.
