“In India, there is no separate laws for a common man and actor Dhanush.” said the court and went on to question the actor why he hid his occupation while seeking tax exemption. A formal clarification was demanded by the Chennai High court to actor Dhanush on why he failed to mention his occupation in his petition. The court also directed the Business tax department to produce the details on how much tax Dhanush has to pay before the noon of Thursday.

Judge S.M Subramaniyan who expressed his condemnation over the actor’s deed, denied to accept the plea of Dhanush’s lawyer who wanted to get back his petition on seeking entry tax exemption, says the report. He said that it would have been fair if he (Dhanush) gets his petition back after paying the entire tax and questioned why he is trying to get back his petition when it is being investigated.

Weeks before, actor Vijay received same treatment from Chennai high court for seeking tax exemption for his imported car in the year 2012. Judge Subramaniam of Madras high court imposed Rs. 1 lakh fine for actor Vijay who sought tax exemption on a luxurious car that got imported from England in the year 2012. Now, on Wednesday, actor Vijay had said that he is not ready to pay the fine amount of Rs. 1 lakh as he had appealed against the judgement through his lawyer. The actor also pointed out the donation of Rs. 25 lakh he made last year for COVID 19 relief fund.

During the hearing of the case, Judge Subramanian questioned why the petitioner didn’t mention his occupation in the petition to the lawyer of Vijay, says reports. When he was informed that he was an actor by profession, the judge, reportedly said “Renowned actors like him should pay taxes properly” to the lawyer.

“Tax income is the backbone of our country’s economy. Taxes must be paid and it is not a donation and it could not be waived off” the judge further said, according to reports. “People’s tax money is being used for the infrastructure of the country such as schools and hospitals. Tamil actors who has potential to become Chief minister of the state, should be an inspiration and act as a hero in real life as well.” Judge schooled.
