Coromandel Express accident in Odisha witnessed the death 233 people and it has been reported that more than 900 people got injured. A video released by one of the NDRF officers who was traveling in the train, is being widely shared in internet platforms. In the video, he says that he was traveling in the train and 500 people who were traveling in the train were dead.

In a devastating incident that unfolded on Friday evening at approximately 7 pm in Odisha’s Balasore district, a horrific train derailment resulted in a significant loss of life and a large number of injuries. The unfortunate event occurred when 10 to 12 coaches of the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express derailed, falling onto the opposite track. Subsequently, the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express collided with the derailed coaches, further exacerbating the catastrophe. To compound the tragedy, a goods train was also involved in the crash.

The train derailment has claimed the lives of more than 200 people, while over 900 individuals have been reported injured. The Railways Ministry has announced compensation measures as a gesture of support, with an ex-gratia of Rs. 10 lakh being offered to the families of the deceased, Rs. 2 lakh for those severely injured, and Rs. 50,000 for individuals with minor injuries.
Eyewitness accounts recount a horrifying scene near the Bahanaga Bazar station in Balasore district. It was reported that the Yashwantpur-Howrah Superfast Express collided with the derailed bogies of the Coromandel Express, which had crashed and fallen onto the opposite track. This subsequent collision caused the crash of several coaches, exacerbating the already dire situation.

As the nation mourns the loss of lives and prays for the speedy recovery of the injured, authorities are focusing on the investigation to determine the cause of the tragic incident. Railway Ministry spokesperson Amitabh Sharma confirmed that the collision occurred when one train struck the derailed bogies of another, leading to the crash of multiple coaches.

In the meantime, video of a NDRF official who was traveling in the train got released. In the video, he could be seen saying that more than 500 people were died in the accident and the rescue operation will continue till the morning.

“The compartment behind which I was traveling became a subject to the accident. I informed the rescue department right away and it will continue till the morning” he could be seen saying in the video.
