The unfortunate event occurred when 10 to 12 coaches of the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express derailed, falling onto the opposite track. Subsequently, the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express collided with the derailed coaches, further exacerbating the catastrophe. To compound the tragedy, a goods train was also involved in the crash.

It was reported that the Yashwantpur-Howrah Superfast Express collided with the derailed bogies of the Coromandel Express, which had crashed and fallen onto the opposite track. This subsequent collision caused the crash of several coaches, exacerbating the already dire situation.

In the meantime, video of a NDRF official who was traveling in the train got released. In the video, he could be seen saying that more than 500 people were died in the accident and the rescue operation will continue till the morning.

“The compartment behind which I was traveling became a subject to the accident. I informed the rescue department right away and it will continue till the morning” he could be seen saying in the video.
