On January 8, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, founder of Isha, said that the Temples in Tamil nadu should be managed by devotees not by bureaucrats and politicians. In a tweet, Sadhguru wrote “Temples in Tamilnadu are in the clutches of Government Administration. Impinging on the sanctity of these powerfully Consecrated places of worship. Time Temples are managed by #Devotees, not by bureaucratic and Political forces. -Sg” and tagged Prime minister Narendra Modi, Cheif minister Edappadi K pazhaniswamy and Superstar Rajinikanth.

-Sg@PMOIndia @CMOTamilNadu @rajinikanth

-Sg

Why is asking for a fair treatment in terms of places of Worship a political move? My humble appeal is, in a Culture steeped in Spirituality, let practitioners manage and develop Temples for the community. No political intent. They left in 1947. -Sg #TemplesForDevotees

State control over temples in what is now Tamil Nadu had its roots in the British East India Company’s actions in the erstwhile Madras Presidency in 1817. After Independence, the Madras Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Act of 1951 was passed. This law was deemed to be unconstitutional by the Madras High Court and Supreme Court.
Now, Tamil actor Santhanam who is actively appearing in film after film, came up with a tweet supporting Sadhguru. The actor said that he completely agrees with Sadhguru and wants government to free Tamil nadu temples. He also expressed his regression over temples being maintained without a single Pooja.
