Sharmila’s journey to becoming a bus driver was not an easy one. Despite having a degree in pharmacy, she found herself occasionally driving her father’s magazine auto in Vadavalli. However, with her father’s encouragement, she decided to pursue a heavy vehicle driver’s license, which was no easy feat. After obtaining her license, Sharmila found it difficult to secure a route to drive a bus, but she persevered, and eventually, a private bus company gave her the opportunity she had been waiting for.

On her first day as a bus driver, Sharmila was accompanied by News 18, who were proud to be able to document her journey. Female passengers traveling on Sharmila’s bus said that they noticed no difference between male and female bus drivers. They expressed their joy at seeing women participating in all sectors, and praised Sharmila for her hard work and determination.
