Coimbatore heated argument between a woman and a sanitation worker in Coimbatore has gone viral, shedding light on the issue of improper garbage disposal. The incident occurred in Saibaba Colony, KK Butar, where the woman was seen throwing garbage on the road. The video highlights the need for increased civic responsibility and the joint effort required from both citizens and the government to maintain a clean and hygienic city.
In the video, a woman riding a two-wheeler is observed discarding garbage on Ammasai Konar Road, 45th Ward, Corporation West Zone. A sanitation worker, arriving in a garbage collection vehicle, confronts her, questioning her actions and inquiring about her residence. The woman halts her vehicle in the middle of the road and arrogantly responds, claiming to be a department head and implying that the worker should purchase the garbage from her.

The sanitation worker advises her to dispose of the garbage in the designated trash cans or keep it at her doorstep, suggesting she visit the local office for further assistance. The worker emphasizes the need for respectful communication, urging the woman to address the issue appropriately. The argument escalates briefly when another employee intervenes, moving the vehicle to the side of the road and asserting that the woman cannot take their cab. Eventually, the woman departs after a heated exchange.

When approached for comment, Ward Health Inspector Ramesh explained that efforts were underway to prevent littering by creating “poo” and “kolam” (traditional Indian designs) on the roads. These designs have successfully deterred people from dumping garbage on the road for the past week. Ramesh expressed his surprise regarding the woman’s behavior and stated that he was unaware of her identity.
The incident highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a clean city. Sanitation workers diligently visit households to collect and segregate garbage, but their efforts alone are insufficient. The incident serves as a reminder that a clean and hygienic city can only be achieved through the active participation of the general public.
Citizens must recognize that the responsibility of waste management lies not only with the government but with each individual. It is crucial to adopt proper waste disposal practices, utilizing designated trash cans or contacting local authorities for assistance. By doing so, citizens contribute to the overall cleanliness of their surroundings and ensure a healthier environment for all.

To address this issue effectively, it is imperative to invest in public education campaigns and awareness programs. Through these initiatives, citizens can be educated about the importance of responsible waste management, including proper disposal methods and the impact of their actions on the environment and public health. The government, along with non-governmental organizations, can collaborate to organize workshops, seminars, and community clean-up drives, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in maintaining a clean city.
In addition to promoting civic responsibility, the incident also highlights the need to strengthen waste management systems. Local authorities should ensure the availability of an adequate number of trash cans in public spaces and regular waste collection services. This would discourage individuals from resorting to improper disposal methods.

This enables prompt action and facilitates effective resolution of such issues, enhancing the overall waste management infrastructure.
