For constantly raising voice against women harassment and sexual abuse, Singer and #MeToo activist Chinmayi has been receiving rape and murder threats through social media platforms by abusers. For a very long time, Chinmayi has been exposing culprits through screenshots of the messages she is receiving from the victims. As soon as she represented the #MeToo movement in South India by accusing lyricist Vairamuthu, she started receiving so many personal messages from girls who got affected by harassers. Now, for calling out abusers and molesters, a random Instagram user has threatened her to rape and kill her through Instagram.

Sharing the screenshot of the same, Chinmayi raised a complaint to Chennai police through a tweet. In the screenshot we can see the unidentified abuser with no original name and display picture, slut shaming the singer with abusive words. He goes on to threaten to rape and kill her.

The singer who says that she is receiving such threats in daily basis, tagged the official twitter account of Chennai Police and said that she is tired of getting such texts. She even felt bad on authorities telling her to take such texts easy. She said that she is willing to file a case and follow procedure to make him spend his jail time. She also tagged the official Instagram account seeked help to get his details.

“I am sick and tired of these graphic rape threats everyday, day in and day out. I get rape calls, rape threats and authorities tell me to take it easy. I will file a case and follow procedure if you can please find this guy and send him to jail. ” read her tweet.

This screenshot shared by Chinmayi created huge outrage among her followers who suggested her to file a case in cyber cell. “THIS IS DISGUSTING! How can the authorities tell you to “take it easy”. This is full on threat and harassment! Wtf! This makes me sick.” wrote a girl in the comment section whereas another asked her not to leave him.

What the hell is wrong with people? You may disagree with someone? But why threatening with all this nonsense. Request police to please take action. For all we know it may be a misguided youth who may be a prospective criminal.

Online threatening is no less than threatening a female in person and it is high time for men to realize that it is a crime which can be punished by the law severely.
