Chennai Youths Died While Performing Rituals !! Gayathri Raguramm Raised Question

Chennai based youths who are priests drowned at a pond near Madipakkam, Chennai. It has been reported that they didn’t survive after getting no help from the fellow men who were performing rituals at that the same spot. Several kind of reactions are surfacing in internet platforms regarding the mournful incident. Gayathri Raguramm who is known for her stint in political and cinema field, shared the video and questioned why no one used their “Veshti” to save the youths and stayed mere spectators till their death. She also questioned whether no one at that spot know swimming.

Tragedy struck on Wednesday morning when five young men drowned in the Moovarasampet tank near Keelkattalai, a suburb in south Chennai. The incident occurred during the Theerthavari festival of the Dharmalingeshwarar temple, in which the victims were participating. The ages of the young men ranged from 18 to 23 years old. Police reported that all five drowned after entering the water body.

Upon being notified, the Palavanthangal police immediately dispatched personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services to the scene. The bodies of all five victims were recovered from the tank and transported to the Government Chromepet Hospital for post-mortem examinations. Officials from the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department have also inspected the tank.

The victims were identified as Raghavan of Madipakkam, Yogeswaran of Keelkattalai, and Vanesh, Raghavan, and R. Surya of Nanganallur. The tragic incident has prompted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin to express his sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims. He has also announced a solatium of ₹2 lakh each, which will be provided from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund.

As the investigation into this incident continues, authorities are urging the public to exercise caution and safety when engaging in water-related activities. The loss of these young lives is a stark reminder of the dangers that can arise when safety measures are not taken seriously.

The Guindy and Velachery fire and rescue services were notified and subsequently retrieved the bodies, following an incident. According to the police, the temple authorities failed to inform them about the inclusion of water-based rituals and the potential risks involved. Furthermore, no safety measures were put in place at the location, including the absence of any safety equipment such as ropes.


Among the many who reacted to the tragic incident, actress cum politician Gayathri Raguramm came up with a tweet in her official social media handle. “How long it will take to use the “Veshti” to save those youths ?? No one at that spot know swimming ??” she questioned.
