On the initial hours of Friday, a twitter user named Madhumitha Baidya uploaded a series of tweets explaining about the trauma she faced at ECR beach, Chennai by Police officials. According to her tweets, the Police warned her to leave the place and uttered rude words to her demeaning the region she belongs to. The tweet grabbed the attention of the official Twitter handle of Tamil nadu Police as a result of which Tamil Nadu DGP Sylendra Babu responded to the girl through it.

Madhumitha, through her tweets, had said that she was sitting with her friend in sea shell avenue, ECR beach with all decency and manner, presumably during the late hours of 14th April. The individual said that she was not aware of the beach timings and faced an inappropriate behavior from a Police official.

She said that the Police officer treated her like a criminal or a terrorist and disrespected her by asking her to go and roam at North India post 10 PM. Identifying herself as someone who belongs to North east, Madhumitha asked whether she got treated that way due to the lack of Tamil speaking ability.

The Police officer also threatened her to file a case against her when she tried to reply him. Madhu also pointed out that there was no notice to inform about the timing of the beach and requested Tamil Police to teach the Police officer to treat people with respect.

“Police officer came with full aggression and started to misbehave like I’m a terrorist or criminal. The most disrespectful thing he told is “Go and roam in North India after 10 o’clock”.Being a north eastern how come I am being tagged as North Indian???? Is it because I cant Speak Tamil language??Then I was replying him back so he threatened me to take me in his Vehicle and he’ll file a case against me?Literally why?And there was no notice displayed about the timing for sitting in beach. Please train them to behave nicely atleast.I’m m not a criminal” She further added.

Responding to the tweet, Tamil Nadu DGP Sylendra Babu IPS said “I regret at the rude & irresponsible behaviour of that police officer on duty. An enquiry is ordered and action as deem fit would be taken: DGP Tamilnadu, Tr. Sylendra Babu IPS” through his tweet via Tamil Nadu Police twitter handle.
