Universal Music Enterprises (UMe), a global catalog division of Universal Music Group (UMG), recently announced the promotion of Sujata Murthy to the position of Executive Vice President of Media & Artist Relations. Ms. Murthy will be responsible for overseeing UMe’s media department and leading press strategies and campaigns. She will also work closely with artists, managers, and estates across UMG’s extensive roster, in addition to expanding UMe’s corporate and executive initiatives.

With over 600 artists and bands, UMe represents some of the most iconic and legendary recording artists in the music industry, including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, U2, and many more. UMe’s extensive catalog of music spans across multiple genres and generations, making it one of the most comprehensive catalogs in the industry.
Ms. Murthy’s promotion is a testament to her exceptional work ethic and strategic campaigns for UMe’s marquee artists. She has built one of the best media teams in the industry, earning her the respect of the artists and their management teams. Ms. Murthy has been instrumental in developing and executing UMe’s successful release strategies for artists, a feat that has contributed to UMe’s immense growth in recent years.

In her new role, Ms. Murthy will continue to lead the media team and develop strategies to promote UMe’s artists through new platforms and technologies. She will also be responsible for expanding UMe’s corporate and executive initiatives, playing a crucial role in the company’s long-term growth and success.
Ms. Murthy’s passion for music and her commitment to serving underserved and marginalized communities have earned her several accolades throughout her career. She was recognized by Korn Ferry as one of the “Most Influential South Asian Women Executives in Media and Entertainment.” She was also included in “The 20 Most Powerful Indians in Hollywood” by Business Insider and received the prestigious Visionary Award by The Women’s International Music Network, among other honors.

Born and raised in Chennai, India, Ms. Murthy started her music career at Capitol Records, working with artists ranging from Radiohead to Skinny Puppy. She later became the primary publicist for artists reissuing classic albums on CD for the first time, including Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, and Dean Martin. Ms. Murthy’s extensive experience in the music industry has allowed her to become a mentor and leader for the BIPOC community, a role she takes seriously and continues to champion in her new position.
