On Sunday, The Ministry of Tourism of Maldives has announced the suspension of flights from India through a tweet. “With effect from 27 April @HPA_mv suspends tourists travelling from #India to #Maldives from staying at tourist facilities in inhabited islands. We thank you for the support in our endeavour to make tourism safest possible with minimum inconvenience.” the official tweet read.
Here’s the tweet :

As soon as the announcement surfaced, users of social media platforms came up with tweets trolling the celebrities who flaunted their vacation pictures from Maldives while public were reeling under the worst crisis. Many stars including Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Rakul Preet Singh, Taapsee Pannu, Kajal Agarwal, Sonakshi Sinha, Pranita, Vedhika, Disha Patani, Aliya Bhatt, Tiger Sheroff, Shivani Narayanan, Janhvi Kapoor visited Maldives and shared glimpses of their beach vacation through their respective social media accounts during the first wave of COVID 19 virus.

A number of celebrities shared pictures from Maldvies days ago as well. Trolling those celebrities, a social media user wrote “Bollywood stars are finally expected to speak against government. The Maldives Government.” and Tamil actor Chandramouli uploaded a tweet trolling them as well.

#Maldives banning Indian tourists from inhabited islands is like saying *veliya pongada ayokya rascalgala* to all the celebrities who went there.

However, it has been reported that the ban is on tourists from India staying at facilities (mostly budget hotels) in inhabited islands. As Indian celebrities would mostly prefer exclusive islands (which are expensive), there will be no impact in their tours.
Sorry, spoke too soon. The #Bollywood Insta feed is going to be just fine: the ban is on tourists from #India staying at facilities (mostly budget hotels) in inhabited islands. The resorts our celebs go to (mostly exclusive islands) are all open. 💁♀️#Maldives pic.twitter.com/wmHJWA2bwM
