Cat meat is being used to make food items based on mutton, says the recent shocking report. It has been reported that the flesh of domestic cats are being used in hotels as a replacement to mutton Biriyani and other food items that are made based on mutton. A viral video that shows cats being caged and sold to hotels, sent shock waves among the Mutton lovers.

Reports suggests that boneless flesh of cats are being bought from the people who belong to Narikurava community and are provided to public in food items such as “Mutton Chukka”, “Mutton Kola Roll” and “Mutton Biriyani” etc.

It all started after an animal activist named Pushparani found two men caging cats near Broadway bus stand located in Chennai and filed a complaint in the Ezhu Ginaru Police Station regarding the same. As a result, A team led by Police Inspector Ramesh recovered 11 cats and submitted them to a person named Seerani who is running a Animal Welfare Centre near Thiruvallur district.

In the preliminary investigation, it has been found that cats which are being grown by individuals as pets in Chennai, are being stolen in order to remove the skin and mix it with mutton flesh. Narikurava people are using their two wheelers in early mornings to steal the cats by trapping them, says reports.

Narikurava people sold the cats to few hotels which are located in Ayanavaram, Sowcarpet and Thiruvanmeer. They also sold the cats to roadside hotels and the ones which got stolen are being sold in Pallavaram Friday market in large number, says the reports. Though such crimes are not committed by every hotel, few hotels got exposed through this one complaint.

It has been reported that these crimes are being stages as both mutton and cat meats ate similar in nature. The news came in as a shock to mutton lovers who avoid chicken due to body heat. While talking to media, Animal activist Seerani said “I conducted a inspection at Pallavaram market three years ago. A cat was being cooked vand other cats were caged. They are selling them in roadside Biriyani shops, as far as I know”

Seerani also said that she rescued hundreds of cats from Narikuravas so far and growing them in her centre. People who came across the news, want Food safety department to conduct an unexpected inspection to the star hotels and other prominent hotels in order to let public eat outside in peace.
