Captain G.R Gopinath, founder of Air Deccan, came up with a tweet after watching the film for the first time. He who said that the film was heavily fictionalised, appreciated Sudha Kongara, Suriya Sivakumar and Aparna Balamurali for pulling out such a project in an appropriate period which he describes as “times of gloom”.

He said that the makers captured the film outstandingly and didn’t dilute the essence of the story of his book. Captain said that he watched the film last night and couldn’t help himself laughing and crying on many family scenes that brought old memories to him. “Dramatised but true to the undying spirit of triumph of hope against struggles and tribulations of an entrepreneur with disadvantaged rural background over overwhelming odds.” he wrote in his tweet.

Captain seemed overwhelmed by the portrayal of his wife’s character in the film. “strong but soft , feisty and fearless” are words he used to describe the nature of his wife. He believed that his wife is an inspiration to the rural women who can be entrepreneurs in their own right.
Gopinath also appreciated Suriya for the way he carried the role of an obsessed entrepreneur. He didn’t miss to appreciate Sudha Kongara for counter balancing a male centric plot by portraying Aparna in an inpiring and heartwarming way. “Suriya was powerful and carried off the part of an entrepreneur obsessed to the point of madness that makes dreams come true. A timely and great uplifting story in these times of gloom. And kudos and big salute to Director Sudha , to have balanced very deftly a male centric story lead by Suriya by portraying a wife acted by Aparna who was a powerful counter balance in an inspiring and heartwarming way” his tweet read.

The portrayal of my wife Bhargavi by Aparna was very well etched out , of a woman who had her own mind , strong but soft , feisty and fearless and an inspiration to rural women especially who are equal and can be entrepreneurs in their own right.

“Soorarai Pottru”, a film that got inspired from the life history of Air Deccan founder G.R Gopinath, is touted to be a coming of age, semi-biographical drama. It is notable that Gopinath is a retired Captain of the Indian Army, an author, and also a politician. Regarding the film, Director Sudha Kongara said that she took inspiration from G.R Gopinath’s autobiography “Simple fly” and made a story that is suitable for the entertainment medium.
The film’s plot revolves around Nedumaaran Rajangam’s constant struggles to initiate an Airline of his own to make simple people travel in it. Along with Suriya, Aparna Balamurali, Oorvashi, Vivek Prasanna did major roles in the film.
