A 22 year old canteen worker from IIT Bombay got arrested for allegedly filming a girl student while she was using bathroom. Officials of Police department has registered a case and are conducting further investigations regarding the complaint. After the complaint was raised, other women students raised similar accusations against the individual.

On Sunday night, The Powai Police arrested the youth. The incident took place a day after a girl from Chandigarh University got accused of similar crime. The Powai Police have registered an FIR in the case undersection 354 V (voyeurism).

According to reports, a student raised an alarm after she noticed the employee peeping into the bathroom through window slits. However, the canteen was closed on Sunday for pest control work. The student who approached the Police, said that the recording took place when she was in the bathroom of Hostel 10.

The alertness of hotel residents led to the employee’s arrest. The institute provided a statement saying “An attempt to violate the personal space of women residents of the hostel was done  by an employee of the canteen by climbing a pipe duct. The accused has been arrested and an investigation is underway by the Mumbai police. We ensure their safety and security”

“The bathrooms in some wings have windows which overlook a platform-like area that is connected by pipes reaching to the ground floor. The perpetrator climbed the pipes to one such area that enabled him to gain access to the windows into the bathroom” stated the in-house insight magazine.

Students have demanded to tight the security measures on the campus and changes, especially in the design of the bathrooms, to ensure such incidents are not repeated even as the institute has shut down the canteen.

During the initial days of August, A 24 year old youth who belongs to the North part of the country got arrested by the police officials for harassing a student of IIT Madras within the campus. The incident happened on the night of 24th July while the student was going to her room in the college hostel. The accused has been identified as one Chandhan Kumar, a canteen worker in the institute’s campus. The victim’s friend brought the issue to the notice of management and police department.
