Video of fans and cadres of DMDK party going emotional while seeing captain Vijayakanth struggling to hoist flag on the independence day got surfaced in the internet. The video shows his wife Premalatha Vijayakanth helping him to eat sweet, hoist flag and to salute at the flag. On seeing their beloved captain struggling visibly, a number of fans and cadres shed tears at the event.

The successful actor who became the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016, served as a Member of Legislative Assembly twice representing the constituency of Virudhachalam and Rishivandiyam respectively. He is also the founder and general secretary of his Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam.

Known for his on screen appearance, Vijayakanth gained widespread fame after entering politics post his cinema career. He is one of very few Tamil politicians and actor to have acted only in Tamil films throughout his career. In the 2014 parliament elections, DMDK forged an alliance with BJP, a non-DMK and non-ADMK alliance of parties such as MDMK, PMK, IJK, and other small parties. However, DMDK Leader Vijayakanth lost his position as Leader of Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly as eight of his MLAs handed over their resignations to the speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

After recovering from COVID 19 virus, Captain started meeting people along with his wife to campaign his party for the upcoming election. Now, Captain made his public appearance for the first time post 2021 assembly elections to hoist flag on the day which marked the 75th Independence Day of country India. Post the event, Premalatha Vijayakanth who met the reporters, said that the law and order became a question mark in Tamil nadu and condemned those who threw slipper at the car of Tamil nadu finance minister Palanivel Thiagaraja.

In the meantime, a viral video that showed captain physically struggling to wave his fans and hoist the flag left the cadres of DMDK party members in an emotional state. Videos of many shedding tears are doing rounds in social media platforms. Users of online platforms are also expressing their concern over Captain’s health and suggested his family members to take care of him.
