Bihar: In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded on the Grand Trunk Road (National Highway-2) in Bihar’s Rohtas district, tragedy struck a family of twelve. A speeding SUV, carrying this family, collided with a stationary container truck near a petrol pump at Pakhnari under Shivsagar police station in Rohtas around 3:30 am. The collision was so severe that the SUV transformed into a mangled heap of metal, with its front half trapped beneath the massive container truck. The grim result of this catastrophic accident was seven lives lost and five individuals left with serious injuries. This tragic event has left a community and the state in mourning, prompting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to offer condolences and direct officials to ensure proper medical care for the injured survivors.

The victims of this horrific road accident were members of a family who had embarked on a journey to Bodh Gaya, a significant pilgrimage site. Little did they know that this journey would turn into a nightmarish tragedy. The deceased have been identified as follows:

1. Arvind Kumar Sharma, 45
2. Rani Premlata Priyadarshini, 42 (Arvind’s wife)
3. Riya Kumari, 12 (Arvind and Rani’s daughter)
4. Aditya Kumar, 9 (Arvind and Rani’s son)
5. Tara Kumari, 22 (niece of Arvind)
6. Chandni Kumari, 20 (niece of Arvind)
7. Rajmati Devi (mother-in-law of Arvind)

Among the injured survivors, Suddheshwar Sharma of Sabar village in Kaimur district was the one who had recently purchased the ill-fated SUV, merely two days before the accident. He, along with four other family members, was severely injured in the crash.

The fateful accident occurred in the early hours of the morning, near a petrol pump on a stretch of the Grand Trunk Road. The SUV, driven by Suddheshwar Sharma, was returning from Bodh Gaya, a place of spiritual significance, back to their hometown. Little did they anticipate the grim fate that awaited them on their journey home.

The force of the impact was so great that it took the assistance of a hydra machine, typically used for moving heavy goods, to extricate the SUV from its nightmarish predicament.

Upon receiving information about the accident, authorities and emergency responders rushed to the scene. Shivsagar station house officer (SHO) Sanjay Kumar described the harrowing scene, stating, “We rushed to the spot after getting information about the accident and started the rescue and relief operation. Six persons had died on the spot, while another died on the way to the hospital.”

The injured survivors were promptly transported to Sasaram Sadar hospital for initial medical care. However, due to the severity of their injuries, they were subsequently referred to higher medical centers for more specialized treatment. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examinations to establish the exact cause of death.
