In a recent incident, a conman posing as a doctor on matrimonial websites targeting doctors has been apprehended by the Kuvempunagar Police. The accused, identified as 35-year-old K.B. Mahesh from Bengaluru, devised an elaborate scheme to trick women into marrying him and then swindling them of their valuables.
Despite having only completed the 5th grade, Mahesh successfully posed as a doctor on sites like shadi.com and doctorsmatrimony.com, exploiting the trust of unsuspecting individuals. His victims were carefully chosen, focusing on unmarried women, divorcees, and widows who held reputable positions and had significant wealth.
The cunning fraudster had managed to deceive over 15 women since 2007, some of whom had children. The crime came to light when one of the victims, Hemalatha, reported the cheating to the police after Mahesh absconded with her gold and cash. The police have since arrested Mahesh and are taking necessary measures to ensure justice is served.
The modus operandi of the conman involved befriending women on matrimonial websites and presenting himself as an ortho DNB specialist from Mysuru. He would arrange meetings and impress his victims by taking them to places like Chamundi Hill and showing off a rented house.
Mahesh would gain the trust of the women and proceed to marry them. After marriage, he would then convince the victims to apply for loans or hand over their valuables, promising to set up a clinic. However, his true intentions were to deceive and steal from them.
In the case of Hemalatha, he stole 200 grams of gold and 15 lakh rupees in cash. Another victim, Divya, revealed that she had also been deceived by Mahesh after marriage. Thankfully, Hemalatha decided to come forward and report the fraud to the police.
Following Hemalatha’s complaint, the Kuvempunagar Police registered a case against Mahesh under sections 420 (cheating and dishonesty), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
After his arrest, the police seized several items, including two cars, seven mobile phones, 2 lakh rupees in cash, and stolen jewelry. It was discovered that Mahesh had a habit of keeping his victims in houses across different cities and towns while maintaining regular contact over the phone.
This incident highlights the audacity of fraudsters who prey on innocent individuals seeking companionship through matrimonial websites. It is disheartening to witness such cases where women are deceived and suffer financial losses.
The police are diligently investigating the matter, and appropriate actions will be taken to ensure justice is served. It serves as a reminder for individuals to exercise caution when interacting with strangers online and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
A conman who pretended to be a doctor on matrimonial websites, specifically targeting doctors, has been arrested by the Kuvempunagar Police. The investigation revealed that the accused, 35-year-old K.B. Mahesh, married and cheated over 15 women in Mysuru and Bengaluru.
Surprisingly, only one woman had the courage to come forward and lodge a police complaint against him, leading to his arrest. Mahesh believed that women in high positions would not file a police complaint if he conned them through marriage, which boosted his confidence.
He posed as a doctor on sites like shadi.com and doctorsmatrimony.com, exploiting unsuspecting women and tricking them into marrying him, only to swindle them of their valuables. His victims were carefully chosen, focusing on unmarried women, divorcees, and widows who held reputable positions and had substantial wealth. Shockingly, some victims had children, and Mahesh had rented a house in Mysuru to impress them.
