Renowned filmmaker Atlee caught in controversy once again for allegedly copying the story of a previously released movie to make a new one. Producer Manickam Narayanan filed a complaint in the producers council, alleging that Atlee has been making “Jawan” by copying the story of “Perarasu”, story rights of which belongs to him.
After directing “Thalapathy” Vijay in “Bigil”, Atlee got the golden opportunity of directing Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan in his upcoming film which is titled as “Jawan”. Yogi Babu, Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi has been included in the cast to do pivotal roles. Shooting of the film is going on in full swing and it expected to hit the screens next year. Rumours suggests that actor Vijay could play a significant cameo role in the film.
While fans are eagerly waiting for the updates of the project to surface, a complaint against director Atlee has been lodged in the producers council citing plagiarism. Veteran producer Manickam Narayanan who owns Seventh Channel production house alleged that Atlee copied the story of “Perarasu” that starred seasoned actor Vijayakanth.
The film which got released in the year 2006, revolves around Vijayakanth playing a dual role as Perarasu and Ilavarasu, twin brothers. While the latter is a responsible CBI officer, the former is in the hunt to kill a minister in order to take revenge for the death of his father. The climax of the Udhayan directorial lies on whether Perarasu took his revenge and Ilavarasu did his duty without fail.
Producer Manickam Narayanan who has the rights for the story, has lodged a complaint in the Producers council alleging that Atlee has making “Jawan” by copying Perarasu’s story. The film producer had said that appropriate actions will be taken against Atlee if he is found guilty. Along with Producers council, the producer also wrote letter to South Indian film chamber.
Atlee is arguably one of the most loved and hated filmmaker of Tamil cinema right now. All the four films of Atlee became blockbusters despite of the plagiarism controversies. His last release in Tamil “BIGIL” has reportedly collected 300 crores in the box office. The film marked the third collaboration of the duo, after “Theri” and “Mersal”. He who is often criticized for replicating the movies of ace filmmaker Manirathnam, once said that he feels proud on the fact of his movies being compared with cult films. The filmmaker’s statement on the existence of only “7 swaram” is famous as well.
