Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) has successfully rescued a 16-year-old girl who had been subjected to the forcible administration of growth hormone pills by her mother. The shocking revelation came to light when the teenager, unable to bear the excruciating pain and side effects any longer, sought help from Childline and lodged a complaint.

According to the victim, she had been consuming these hormone pills for the past four years, causing her to experience unconsciousness and severe swelling in her body. In her statement, the first-year intermediate student revealed that her mother had been forcing her to take the pills in an attempt to enhance her physical growth, with the ultimate goal of securing acting roles in films. Distressed and traumatized, the girl expressed how the forced medication was not only affecting her education but also inflicting unbearable pain upon her.

Alarming details emerged from the complaint as the teenager unveiled another horrifying aspect of her ordeal. Her mother, in a bid to groom her for future “commitments” with alleged filmmakers, subjected her to intimate encounters with certain individuals who visited their residence. Refusing to comply with her mother’s exploitative demands would result in physical abuse, as the girl narrated incidents where she was beaten and threatened with electric shocks.

In response to the distressing complaint, the child welfare committee, led by Kesali Appa Rao, chairman of APSCPCR, along with police officers, promptly visited the girl’s residence. Recognizing the urgency and gravity of the situation, they immediately took the girl into protective custody. The girl disclosed in her statement that her father had divorced her mother, who subsequently remarried but was widowed a few years later.

Appa Rao informed that the girl initially dialed the emergency helpline number 112, but unfortunately did not receive any assistance. However, she managed to seek help by dialing the Childline number, 1098, with the aid of a compassionate individual on Thursday. The APSCPCR, upon receiving the minor’s complaint, promptly referred the case to the police for the registration of a criminal case against the mother, highlighting the gravity of her actions and the need for legal intervention.
