Ananya made her acting debut in the Malayalam film “Positive” in 2008, followed by her Tamil debut in “Naadodigal” the following year. The latter film turned out to be a critical and commercial success, propelling Ananya into the limelight and earning her accolades. In 2011, she received the Kerala State Television Award for Best Actress for her performance in the telefilm “Doore” and the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress – Tamil for her role in “Engaeyum Eppothum.”

Born as Ayilya to Malayali parents Gopalakrishnan Nair, a renowned film producer, and Praseetha in Perumbavoor, Kerala, Ananya’s name was derived from her birth star Aslesha, known as Ayilyam in Malayalam and Tamil. She had a brief stint as a child artist in one of her father’s productions, “Pai Brothers” (1995), where she served as the executive producer. Ananya pursued a B.A. degree in Communicative English at St. Xavier’s College for Women in Aluva. During her childhood, she displayed her talent as an archer and even won the State Championship. It was during her participation in the television reality show “Star Wars” as a representative of her college that she caught the attention of various directors and received acting offers. After initially declining five projects, she decided to give acting a try and made her debut in “Positive.”

Ananya’s screenname was changed to Ananya when she was working on her debut Tamil film “Naadodigal.” The film not only achieved great commercial success but also brought Ananya into the spotlight with her remarkable performance. She went on to reprise the same role in the Malayalam remake “Ithu Nammude Katha.” Ananya’s breakthrough in Malayalam came with the film “Shikkar” alongside the legendary actor Mohanlal. Her impressive performance in the thrilling climax of “Shikkar” left a lasting impression on Mohanlal, who hailed her as the “Vijayashanti” of Malayalam cinema. She also played a supporting role in “Kandahar,” sharing the screen with Mohanlal and Amitabh Bachchan. However, it was her role in “Engaeyum Eppothum” in 2011 that garnered critical acclaim and made her a household name.

After a three-year hiatus, Ananya returned to the Tamil film industry in 2014 with “Pulivaal.” As of 2018, she has several projects in the pipeline, including “Sigappu Rojakkal 2” in Tamil, “Intintaa Annamayya” in Telugu, and “Ameya” in Malayalam, which is currently delayed for release. She is now eagerly anticipating the release of her upcoming Malayalam movie, “Bhramam.”
