On seeing the violence that surfaced around the “Agnipath” scheme, Anand Mahindra, chairman of Mahindra groups, through one of his tweets, said that he is ready to recruit youths n his company post their service as Agniveers. His tweet garnered wide reach as a result of which many men who served in the army and struggling to get a sustainable job after that commented on the post asking what job opportunity Mahindra Group created for ex Army men in the past.
The Union Cabinet took a historic decision approving an attractive recruitment scheme for Indian youth to serve in the Armed Forces for which a scheme has been introduced with the name AGNEEPATH. The youth selected under the Agneepath scheme will be categorised as Agniveers. The Armed Forces will be recruiting 46,000 Agniveers this year through this scheme. With the announcement of this Agnipath Scheme, a window of opportunity has been opened for the youths to serve their nation for a period of 4 years.
The youths falling in the age group of 17.5 years to 23 years (revised upper age limit) with physical fitness and patriotism are eligible to apply through Agneepath Yojna to become Agniveers. A protest is being staged by the aspiring young army officers across the country against the scheme as the opportunity has no long lasting job secure and it also likely ruins the education of youths.

When the scheme was mooted last year I stated-& I repeat-the discipline & skills Agniveers gain will make them eminently employable. The Mahindra Group welcomes the opportunity to recruit such trained, capable young people”

Former Navy Chief Arun kumar, in his reply said “Why await this new scheme? Has the Mahendra Group, so far, reached out to thousands of highly skilled & disciplined ex-Servicemen (Jawans & Officers), retiring every year & desperately seeking a 2nd career. It would be nice to get some statistics from your Group”
