A shocking report about a teacher who worked in the school of the “Karur girl” killing himself after writing a letter emerged in news portals. In the letter, the male teacher said that the students of the school misunderstood him and it feels humiliating for him. He also said that is not aware of why students are misunderstanding him and expressed his love towards his family before committing suicide. Named as Saravanan, the teacher sought apologies to his students for scolding them out of anger. He also requested them to study well through the letter based on which Police have started their investigation.
In the letter, Saravanan said that he had done nothing wrong but the students doubted him and it had caused him great pain. “Please forgive me, I miss you all” he said in his note.
Saravanan left the school in Karur by Wednesday noon citing an emergency and went to his uncle’s house in Thuraiyur and died by suicide when we alone. “Upon receiving the body, the Thurayur cops reached the spot and recovered the body. A case has been registered under section 174 of the CrPC. The post mortem process is still going on and we are conducting an inquiry to find out if the teacher’s death is connected with the sexual harassment of the girl” SP Sujith kumar of Thiruchirapalli told media.
Last week, a suicide note of a plus two studying girl from Karur surfaced in Internet with public venting their emotions out. During the night of Friday, she killed herself after writing a note saying that she was afraid of revealing the detail of the person who had pushed her to “take the decision”. The Police retrieved the purported suicide note from the deceased girl’s home in which she said that she could be the last girl to be pushed into taking extreme measures due to sexual harassment
Police registered a case on Friday and sent the body for autopsy to Karur Government Medical College and Hospital. And through the investigation, the police found the alleged suicide note. In the note, the girl also reportedly wrote that she was afraid of revealing the identity of the person (her alleged harasser) who had “pushed” her “to take this decision.”
“We have registered a case and begun the investigation. The family of the deceased didn’t place any allegation. The deceased girl has also not mentioned anyone’s name in the suicide note. We are conducting an investigation into all possible angles.” Karur Superintendent of Police P Sundaravadivel said. On Saturday, the body has been handed over to the family after an autopsy.
In letter which is dated on 19th of November, the girl said “I should be the last girl who is dying of sexual harassment. I am afraid of revealing the person who forced me to take this decision. I wished to live on this earth but now leaving it in midway. I wish to get one more chance to live in this world. I wished to help many after growing up but I couldn’t” the suicide note read. Expressing her love towards her father, mother, uncles, the minor asked apology to them for leaving without informing. “No girl should die like me” she ended her note.
A widespread protest broke out after the girl’s demise across Karur. Politicians and activists urged the district administrators to take immediate action and arrest the accused. It has been reported that the college students of several institutions were involved in protest by blocking roads. Karur district collector Prabhu shankar pacified the students who conducted a rally at Kaliyapuram bus stop.
