The news of parent’s suicide by consuming poison at their house at Kunnathur near Avinashi in Tirupur district on the night of September 4, 2021, after their 22-year old daughter got married to her lover against their wishes is going viral among the internet users. 

65-year old R Ponnuswamy and 55-year old P Sumati are the parents of Janani(22-year old) who are living at Polayampalayam in Tirupur. Ponnuswamy was a borewell rig owner and Sumathi is a homemaker. Janani was their only daughter who is studying the final year of physiotherapy in a private medical college in Coimbatore city.

Being single Janani’s parents very much pampered her. Janani was in love with Sampath who was a butcher in a meat shop nearby her house at Polayampalayam. Janani’s parents refused their daughter love for Sampath due to age difference and Sampath’s mischievous behaviour. Ponnuswamy and Sumati told their daughter to concentrate on her studies and advised her that they would choose a good groom for their daughter after her graduation.

 As the schools and colleges of Tamil Nadu have reopened from September 1, Janani went to her college in Coimbatore. Blindly by love with Sampath, Janani married him at a temple in Coimbatore without her parents’ knowledge. On Saturday, 4th of September 2021, Janani shared her wedding picture to her father’s WhatsApp number.

Initially the elder couples, Ponnuswamy and Sumati were shocked to see their daughter as a bride to Sampath. Janani being their only child, they gave her all good thing to make their daughter happy. They had spent lakhs of the amount on her medical studies. As usual as all parents, this elderly couple too had many plans regarding their daughter’s wedding.  But they were disheartened about Janani’s decision.

The distressed parents decided to kill themself by suicide. They tried to hang themselves inside their home.  But the length of the rope they had for hanging was not enough to hang. So they dropped the plan of hanging.

Later they had a poison tablet along with a banana on the night of Saturday which led them to death. The next neighbours found it strange as the couples did not come out of their homes for so long. This strangeness made the neighbours force open the house door of Ponnuswamy. The couples were found dead and immediately informed to the Kundrathur Police Station by the neighbours.

The police came to the spot and collected the dead bodies and started the further investigation. The dismiss of the parents is causing great grief in and around the Tirupur district. This news is going viral among internet users.
