From Varun Chakravarty getting selected for Indian cricket team to Natarajan bowling the highest number of yorker deliveries, Tamil nadu cricket fans enjoyed the tournament to the fullest. What came as a surprise is, Dinesh Karthik interacting with Varun Chakravarty from behind the stumps in Tamil language while representing Kolkata knight riders team.

Now, on the 54th league match of IPL tournament, Sanju Samson, a kerala based cricketer interacting with Shreyas Gopal, a Karnataka based spinner in Tamil language grabbed the attention of Tamil nadu audience. In the match that took place between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight riders, Shreyas Gopal, a Bengaluru based spin bowler bowled three overs and went expensive by conceding 44 runs. When he came in to bowl the 14th over, KKR captain Eoin Morgan and destructive batsman Andre Russel were batting.

In the first two deliveries Shreyas bowled to Andre Russel, he just gave one run. The third ball which was faced by Eoin Morgan was a miss hit but it managed to go for a boundary in the straight. On seeing him conceding just 5 runs in the first 3 balls with a boundary due to miss hit, Sanju Samson who was keeping the wicket, to boost his courage said “Nalla Podra, Nalla Podra” in Tamil which means “You are bowling good so far”. However, Shreyas bowled a short ball after this which gave Morgan the enough time to place it where he wanted. It went for four in the offside to which Sanju can be heard saying “Time eduthu podu” (Take your time and bowl) to Shreyas in Tamil. Though Shreyas was born and brought up in Bangalore, Karnataka, reports suggests that the 27 year old belongs to a Tamil speaking family.

This is not the first time, a wicket keeper using a regional language to interact with his teammates. During International matches, while playing with Tamil nadu players like Ashwin, Dinesh Karthik made the headlines for giving him suggestions and appreciations in Tamil. Not only Karthik, even Dhoni and other Indian wicket keepers would use their respective regional languages to prevent their foreign opponents from understanding their game strategies.
