The saga began on May 24 when Nithya Sasi reportedly contacted a 75-year-old ex-serviceman and former Kerala University employee from Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram, under the guise of seeking a rental property. On July 18, he mustered the courage to approach the Paravur police and file a formal complaint against Nithya Sasi and Binu.
