The world of motorsport has been jolted by an unimaginable tragedy as 13-year-old racing prodigy Shreyas Hareesh lost his life in a racing accident. The news reverberated across social media, prompting actor Siddharth to share his condolences with a heartfelt post: “Shreyas Harish is no more. He died in a racing accident. Love and prayers for his bereaved family.” The loss of such a young and promising talent has left a void in the hearts of many, including the racing community and well-wishers who had followed his journey.

The tragic incident unfolded during the third round of the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship 2023 at the Madras International Circuit. Shreyas, hailing from Bengaluru, had qualified in pole position for the Rookie race earlier that morning. However, as the race commenced, an unfortunate crash led to Shreyas falling and sustaining a grievous head injury.

The race was immediately red-flagged, and Shreyas was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital via a trauma care ambulance stationed at the track. Despite the prompt medical attention, he was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival. His father, Copparam Hareesh, was by his side during his final moments.

Shreyas Hareesh’s brief but impactful journey in the world of racing was marked by remarkable achievements. Born on July 26, 2010, he was a student at Kensri School in Bengaluru. His exceptional talent had already earned him numerous wins at the national level, including an impressive streak of four consecutive victories in the Petronas TVS One-Make Championship’s Rookie category this season.

The news of Shreyas’ untimely demise struck a chord with the motorsport community, prompting MMSC President Ajit Thomas to express his condolences. Thomas acknowledged Shreyas’ prodigious racing talent and highlighted the swift medical response he received after the accident. In light of the tragedy, the decision was made to cancel the racing weekend’s program.

Shreyas Hareesh’s journey transcended national borders, as he had also competed in MiniGP races in Spain, achieving fifth and fourth positions in two races earlier this year. His achievements were not confined to the Indian racing scene; he had been slated to compete in the MSBK Championship 2023 at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia. Representing team CRA Motorsports in the 250cc category (Group B), Shreyas had his sights set on further accomplishments on the international stage.
