Police in West Chamaparan arrested four accused on Friday night who were allegedly involved in thrashing a girl after tying her with a pillar using ropes. The matter surfaced after the video of the incident surfaced on Friday.
Bagaha SP Arvind Kumar told TOI on Saturday over phone that the incident took place on Thursday at village Kathaiyya under Naurania police station area in the Bagaha police district of west Champaran.
“The arrested persons have been identified as Sursen Kumar (25), Hansraj Kumar (27), Kanwal Kumar (22) and Meghnath Bargharia (23),” the SP said.
He said that an FIR was also lodged with the Naurangiya police station on basis of a written complaint submitted by the victim.
He said that the incident took place when the victim had gone to her friend’s residence to meet her.
“Though the incident took place on Thursday but the video and photos of the girl being thrashed after being ties with pillar surfaced on Friday,” SP Kumar said.
He also said that immediately a team in leadership of Sadar SDPO Sanjeev Kumar was formed which arrested the four accused.
The girl was allegedly involved in a love-triangle with a local youth. The other woman involved in the affair accused the victim of leaking her objectionable photos on social media. This resulted in a dispute between the two girls.
When things turned sour, the village Panchayat advised them to not stay in touch with each other. However, on 3 May, the woman allegedly called the victim and asked her to come over to her place. On reaching her place, the victim was tied, and mercilessly thrashed, before being rescued by the police.
The four men arrested in connection with tying and thrashing of the girl, have been identified as Sursen Kumar (25), Hansraj Kumar (27), Kanwal Kumar (22) and Meghnath Bargharia (23). An FIR was also lodged on the basis of a written complaint submitted by the 18-year-old.
“The Tharu tribes hardly approach the police for any matter and this incident was also solved by the Panchayat. No one had come to the girl’s rescue till we reached,” Gupta said.
“We were banned from meeting each other. She was my friend. We used to talk and meet each other. We had a fight and we were banned from meeting by our families. She had called me and asked me meet her, so I went to her place.” said the victim.
