Located at 160 kilometres from the capital of the state, Gingee fort which is popularly known as “Senji” or “Chenchi” kottai will be a new experience for the first timers.The majestic fort has three different hill top and citadels and a massive boundary of thick walls and cliffs. Known as “Most impregnable fortress in India”, Gingee fort was fondly called as “Troy of East” by the British. It is best to visit the place when it’s not so hot.

It is indeed possible to visit Thada falls within a day and return before it’s too late at night if you start early. Located nearly 100 kilometres from Chennai and it’s a little bit of an adventure trek of 3 kilometres, but well worth the effort. Being considered as one of Tamil nadu’s most important dams, Sathanur is located 30 kms away from Thiruvannamalai district which is 150 kms away from Chennai city. The dam consists beautifully maintained gardens and has acted as a shooting spot for many movies of Kollywood. Crocodile farm, Fish Grotto, Children’s park and a Zoo is maintained at the location as well.

7.Mahabalipuram :

Mamallapuram or Mahabalipuram us a well loved tourist spot that is located very near to Chennai. Famous for it’s intricately carved temples and rock cut caves, the place is a historically important location as well. It’s just 52 kilometres away from the city and the best time to visit time is during midweek as weekends will be extremely crowded.
