A teenage girl was gang-raped in front of her father by six young men in a village in Bihar’s Kishanganj district. Social media users were shocked as they shared the news reports.
According to an Indo-Asian News Service (IANS) report, police officials confirmed that the 19-year-old victim lodged a formal complaint on Wednesday that six young men from her village under Kodhowadi police station knocked at her door late on Tuesday night asking for water to drink, but forcibly entered her home and dragged her outside.
On Monday night, six men knocked on the door of the house where the family had recently moved in. They asked for some water and forcibly entered the house. The attackers dragged the father and daughter out and took them to the outskirts of the village, said senior police officer Ashish Kumar.
The men overpowered the father, beat him and tied him to a tree. The six allegedly took turns and raped the girl in front of the father. All six men have been named as accused in the First Information Report (FIR), Mr Kumar said, and added that one of them has been arrested.
Her complaint stated that they took her to a deserted field near her house and gang-raped her in front of her father, who was taken a hostage and tied to a tree.
She also informed the police that the accused threatened her and father not to approach the police. A case has been lodged against all the named accused.
The SP further said he had gone to the village and met the victim and her father, besides enquiring about the incident with the villagers. And, that the victim had been sent for medical examination at Kishanganj Sadar hospital.
To scotch rumours that were being spread “to vitiate the atmosphere”, Superintendent of Police Kumar Ashish said the accused persons and the teen belong to the same community.
A special police team arrested the four accused on Thursday while two others are still at large.
They tied the father up with a rope and raped the teenager in front of him, according to an FIR. The six also had threatened to kill the two if they told anyone about the incident.
“Various rumours are being spread. There is an attempt to vitiate the atmosphere. The police are keeping a close vigil on such elements,” police said.
Police had gone to the village on Thursday and met the woman and her father, besides enquiring about the incident with the villagers. Apart from Kodhiwadi, adjoining police stations have also been directed to arrest the accused.
