Atrocious behaviour of a government authority who is working as a municipality commissioner in Vaaniyambadi, Thirupathur has created huge outrage in social media platforms. The central government announced that it is going to extend the lockdown period to prevent the virus from spreading. The lockdown is getting extended for third consecutive time and this time it is going to be two weeks from 4th May to 17th. However this time, the government divided all the districts in the country into Red, Orange and Green zones, considering the number of corona cases. Despite the lockdown extension, the new MHA order provided several concessions in Green and Orange zones. The Red zone required to continue shut as the previous two lockdowns.

Though there is no green zone in Tamilnadu, few fields are allowed to function. Private offices can work with 33% of strength, with the rest on Work from home. Shops, selling liquor, paan, gutka and tobacco will be allowed in green and orange zones. However, due to violating the restrictions of social distancing, Madras high court ordered government to close the liquor shops across the state.

However, Fruits and Vegetable shops, Medical shops and Hospitals are functioning from Day 1 since the first lockdown. Now, Cecil Thomas, a Municipal commissioner of Vaniyambadi has involved in a outrageous behaviour and the video of it went viral in the social media platforms. He thrown away the fruits and vegetables of vendors and treated them in a bad way. He can be seen pushing the fruits tray in road and throwing bananas in roads in front of its owners.

Now, the authority has been forced to give clarification regarding his behaviour. Cecil Thomas has said that he got himself involved in such activity only to avoid spreading the virus like how it did in Koyambedu market. “Despite of several warning they didn’t shut their shops. I went three rounds and they kept functioning. To avoid what happened in Koyambedu market, I behaved in such way. I did it only for the well being of the people. People should understand it. We are combating against the virus for day and night. I feel sorry for my act” he said.

He even compensated the loss faced by the vendors, according to reports.
