Despite the struggle caused by Coronavirus across the country, many felt grateful to the disease as the number of crimes reduced in the country since the pandemic. The number of crimes such as harassment against women, murders and theft cases reported in a less number comparing to normal days. Country India is under lockdown for nearly straight 50 days, result of which many cases of domestic violence against women reported to Police officials. Now, to our shock, a horrific rape case has been reported in Telangana where a 80 year old man allegedly raped a 22 year old woman.

The 22 year old woman who belong to Falaknuma in Hyderabad, lodged a police complaint against her 80 year old relative. She accused him of raping her at his house in Banjara hills but Police have not made any arrest yet in connection with the case.

According to Police report, the victim got separated from her husband recently and her elderly relative offered to help her with an accommodation to stay. In the first week of April, which is 1 week after the lockdown announcement, visited the accused man’s house with a male friend.

Kalinga Rao, Inspector of Banjara Hills has said that the woman and her male friend were offered alcohol by the elderly man as soon as they arrived his home. After that, when the woman was under the influence of alcohol, the octogenarian allegedly sexually assaulted her, reports suggested.

To our shock, after the alleged incident took place in the first week of April, the elderly man approached police and registered complaint by accusing the 22 year old woman and her friend of stealing his expensive watch. The verification regarding the alleged incident is underway result of which Police could not make any arrest yet. The woman who alleged that the incident happened on 3rd of April, registered complaint against the elderly man only on 7th of May.

This incident has created huge outrage in the social media platforms where people are reacting in various ways. “Rapists don’t care about social distancing.” wrote Sapna one of a social media user whereas another user wrote “we must understand that the country is in a terrible moral crisis.”
